Critics said Friday that retired Admiral John Kirby's willingness to meet with the press about President Biden's classified documents showed White House press secretary Karen Jean-Pierre was not the right person for the job amid the shutdown.
Kirby, who served as Pentagon spokesman under former President Barack Obama, and Biden, briefly, is now the National Security Council's strategic communications coordinator. He often speaks to the press about issues such as Ukraine, Russia and China.
Kirby joined Jean-Pierre earlier this month and answered questions from reporters, including Fox News' Peter Ducey. At five, host Jesse Waters says Jean-Pierre "talks like a link" and repeats the same exact lines over and over again, a red herring.
"Sorry, I'll refer you to the White House counsel," joked moderator Brian Kilmeade after Kirby was asked about his response to the papers scandal.
You can only use this phrase in special cases. It cannot be the answer to all questions. That's why Kirby has quality.
Pence spoke for the first time since the discovery of the classified documents at India House.

Kilmead cited correspondence between Duocy and Jean-Pierre, in which the reporter referred to Kirby's initial statement about the status of the Biden documents, and the spokesman asked where Duocy had gone.
When Ducey pointed to Kirby as a source, he referred Jean-Pierre to the White House attorney general's office for clarification.
"Kirby has everything it takes to dance, dive well and talk like a human being," Waters said. “[Jean-Pierre] cannot speak like a person, he speaks like an archive.

Primetime host Jesse Watters added that he believed Jean-Pierre's performance could lead to him leaving the White House in the coming months.
In addition, first lady Jill Biden mentioned that she stopped her husband from yelling at a reporter at a recent White House event about the rumor that he had classified documents.
“[Man, Joe needs a lot of help,” he joked.

Judge Jeanine-Pierre added that since the president's lawyer had to answer many questions from the press, Jeanine-Pierre was hiding information from the public or simply being "wrong" in her position.
He later added in part, "They always answered [questions] during the [Russian] mediation process."
But the most important thing is their self-esteem. I mean how do women get out? Don't you know how embarrassing it is, how ridiculous it is?
