Now that February has arrived, there is only one month left before the official start of spring. Although February can be cold, spring garden preparations begin this month. Along with preparing the garden, the gardener must remember to plant the vegetables that need to be planted this month in order to have next year's harvest.
So what vegetables should gardeners plant in February? Gardeners can start planting beans, carrots, parsley, tomatoes and more this week, according to horticulture expert and director of Easy Garden Irrigation Shawn Leid.
Sean not only tells you what vegetables to plant, but he also gives tips on how to plant and water them before harvesting.
Vegetables that can be planted from February:
Peas
Sowing: January - June
If the soil is warm enough, you can plant peas early. However, it is good to use the bells to warm the soil if necessary. If you think the soil is still a little cold, it is best to plant the seeds indoors so that they are warm enough.
For "maximum yields" you should plant every two weeks. This means you have fresh peas from June to October.
Sean adds, “Peas need plenty of water, a good soak twice a week, especially during dry spells, and mulch, mulch, mulch! Once the plants are established, support them by placing stakes or trellises.

carrots
Sowing: February - July
Carrots can be planted as early as February, as they are a very frost-resistant vegetable that can be easily grown in different climates.
Sean said, once it's planted, there's no need to move it because it can stay in the same place from planting to harvest.
He continued: “Carrots are quite hardy in periods of minimal rain but still need care. Water regularly, but don't panic and overdo it.
“You'll know when they need water because the leaves will start to wilt. With proper care, carrots can take about 12 weeks to mature and be ready for summer harvest.
Sean also recently launched his annual vegetable growing calendar, which tells gardeners when to plant different vegetables throughout the year in the UK.

parsley
Sowing: February - May
Parsley can be sown as early as February, but it is better to wait until the warmer months such as March, April and May.
Parsnips prefer a soil pH of 6.0 to 6.8 and need plenty of moisture and a long growing season to develop their large aromatic roots.
Parsley should be well watered, especially during dry periods. The gardener must ensure that the soil does not dry out or become waterlogged, as this will affect the quality of the crop at harvest time.
turnip
Sowing: February - September
Sean said: “You can start planting summer radishes in February to March. Plant every 14 days for a summer harvest.
“If you're looking for your next crop, plant winter or oriental varieties every two weeks for about two months starting in June.
“Keep the soil nice and moist to enrich the roots and harvest as needed. Make sure the leaves are nice and big so the turnips are cooked.
