Have Old Wooden Pallets Sitting In Your Garage? Here, 5 Ways To Repurpose Them Into DIY Decor

If you've ever had construction work done on your home, you may have leftover lumber after the workers leave. These pallets look useless and are probably headed for the landfill, right? Error! With a little creativity, they can be turned into unique home decorations. Repurposing these decks is not only an affordable and sustainable way to decorate your home, but it also gives your space a beautiful mix of industrial and country. If you don't have the supplies but still want to try these DIY hacks, you can find them at most home improvement retailers (like Home Depot). Read on for five ways to use folding pallets to create unique furniture.

Have an indoor plant show

A pallet placed on the side is the best shelf for plants. Use it on your porch or patio or add it to your attic. Regardless of the location, plants and garden accessories still make life attractive. Don't worry if your palette shows various signs of wear: any extra dirt or wear will work on the bright green or flower you're filling.

This DIY hanger requires two platforms. (Depending on the space you have, you may want to use a power cutter to cut the popsicles into smaller pieces.) Sand the edges with medium-grit sandpaper. Stack one platform on top of the other and use wood screws to attach all four corners. Make a cushion from a 5-inch-thick piece of foam that fits the deck, and a cushion from fabric cut 6 inches from the foam on all sides. Place the foam in the center of the back of the fabric and fasten it tightly on each edge, using strong fabric glue.

If you want to adjust the piece again, you can add wheels to each corner, which will allow you to push it against the wall when needed. When it comes to the shape and size of your bedroom, that room is entirely up to you!

Create ... a coffee table

Start with two platforms; If desired, use a food processor to cut the popsicles into smaller pieces. Place the two platforms on top of each other and secure them with wood screws at the four corners as well as other areas where the two components touch. Add wheels if you need to move. The open spaces provide space for items such as magazines, and the pre-seasoned wood table makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Create... a dining table

Create an attractive kitchen or dining table by using a pallet top and adding four decorative legs from the hardware store. Secure legs with angle brackets or metal fasteners. The "holes" or hollow spaces between wooden planks can be used for centerpieces or as salt and pepper mills. With a plexiglass top cut to fit a flat surface that easily holds cups, pans and utensils.

Do... storage shelves

Replace a cut pallet that does not fit on the shelves. You can try a simpler approach, by simply folding a pallet to one side and using the edges to attach trinkets, baskets or houseplants. Alternatively, you can make a long shelf. For the latter option, use two, four and screws to create a rectangular frame of the desired height and width. (Make the vanes fit before assembly.) Use a power pliers to cut the tops of the shelves and attach them to the frame with wood screws.

Whatever style you choose, let your personal style guide you. It's cheap and amazing to turn something that seems useless to your space into a rustic centerpiece in the back of your shed.

How to untie the pallet. The easy way! Two great technologies.
