Want To Check Out Some Gardening Tools? Metro Grows Can Teach You How To Use Them.

A new program at several libraries in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area offers residents the opportunity to rent gardening tools and offer workshops on how to use them.

This spring, Metro Grows launched its first 'Library of Things' collection, introducing both novice and experienced gardeners to a range of tools they can use. The new program is made possible by a health education grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Museum and Library Research Institute.

What is an "Object Library"?

An object library allows you to borrow more items than the traditional literary materials that most people expect from a library. Officials say this serves a dual purpose: to foster a "sharing economy" to reduce waste and facilitate the city's sustainability efforts; And give residents the chance to 'try before they buy' products that you can't.

The term of the loan is three weeks. Equipment is provided on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be delayed.

  • Belle Isle Library

  • Capitol Library

  • Downtown Library.

Instruments are considered "non-renewable library items," but if a patron returns a device to the library and other devices are available for patrons to check out, staff may return and return the items for three other weeks.
