"When you start decorating for the holidays, your tree is a great place to start," Eliason told the Courier Journal. The designer starts by placing the lights near the trunk of the tree and works outward. The more light the better, and she loves the warm white Christmas tree lights, as well as the big bright retro lamps that were popular in the 1960s.

"It has to be a lot of fun and you want to feel comfortable decorating it, so choose what you really like," he said.

Using a fork as a starting point, wrap the garland around the trunk of the tree, starting at the center of the base of the tree. Wrap the lights evenly around the branches closest to the trunk, then intertwine them from the center of the crown. Once you reach the top, start descending.

"You can't go wrong with more light," said the designer. “Once they are ready, start filling them with wreaths and decorations. If your tree is sparse and you want to add fullness, flower spikes or sprays are twigs, berries, decorative balls, or decorated leaves that you can insert into empty spaces.
