While you're shopping for the holidays, be sure to check out six local garden centers in Colorado Springs. While all of these stores are excellent sources of quality gardening tools and supplies, they also have a wide selection of interesting and unusual gifts. If you can't decide, consider gift cards.
I went to each of these garden centers to see what treasures I could find. I was not disappointed as there are so many great gift options.
• TC Harding, 721 N. Powers Blvd. Entering the store, you will definitely feel the festive atmosphere. The symbols of the season are numerous and beautiful. In addition to holiday decorations, Harding Nursery has a fine collection of wreaths, wreaths and centerpieces.
• Phelan Park, 4955 Austin Bluffs Boulevard. This is a great place to pre-order bare-root fruit and ornamental trees. The trees will be ready in the second half of March. The advantage of pre-ordering is a large selection of varieties, including 10 different apples, three types of pears and several other fruits. Ornamental motifs include hawthorn, maple and apple.
• Good Earth Garden Center 1330 N. Walnut St. It's very festive here! Walking through the store, I marvel at the beautiful sound of the sparkling fountains, both at the counter and on my own. There is also a large selection of Christmas decorations. Garden ornaments come in a variety of styles and materials.
• Summerland Gardens, 806 Arcturus Drive. Summerland has a wide selection of houseplants. Rare species and plants of special interest, such as bonsai, make great gifts. Rare plants on display include the 'Golden Goddess' philodendron, a beautiful climbing houseplant with thick, cookie-like leaves, and the tea plant, which grows particularly well indoors. The bonsai collection includes tropical gardenias (flowering bonsai).
• Spencer Courtyard and Gardens, 1430 S Tejon St. Mecca for holiday shopping. Be sure to check out the quirky 1950s patisserie in the basement. During my visit, a very colorful and unusual ceramic hummingbird feeder caught my attention. They also have many painted pots, bird cages and garden decorations.
• Rick's Garden Center, 1827 Wint Street. Rick's offers a variety of houseplants and containers from small to large. I was very impressed with the colorful succulents and cacti. For larger or climbing plants, a unique plant stand can really take your garden plants in a new direction.
Enjoy your holiday shopping and shop at your local stores!
