Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Lightscape Show Returns For The Holidays

New York Christmas is a time of lights and shows. Add art and you have a spectacular show at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Lightscape is a 1.6 km strip covered in a million lights for families to enjoy this holiday season. Sculptures and colorful lights illuminate the trees and grounds of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden along with live music and vibrant art.

"Each exhibition is unique. The atmosphere is completely different from one place to another," said inspector Elinor Asai.

"I loved it. I thought it was beautiful. He loved the music and, you know, the Christmas spirit," said Superintendent Gretchen Murrow.

"I enjoy the light. Everything is very beautiful. I love it here," said visitor Olive Thomas.

Families spent chilly Friday nights enjoying outdoor evening tours by international and local artists.

"I think it's pretty and the lights are really fun," said one boy.

"This is one of my favorite places," said visitor Anne Vigorito.

“It's great to be here in Crown Heights. As a resident of Crown Heights, it's right in my backyard for me to see and enjoy,” said visitor Dacia Benjamin.

For the second year in a row, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden has unveiled spectacular lightscapes and unique art installations.

"We really wanted people to be able to see what the garden looks like at night," said Catherine Glass of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. "In winter, when the leaves are falling, you can really see the beautiful architecture of our old trees, many of which are over 100 years old."

For many it has become a family tradition.

"We love the park, but it's a lot of fun here," said Inspector Joanne Ahola.

The route can be seen illuminated until January 8. For more information, visit bbg.org/lightscape .
