We all have something, or somewhere, that activates serotonin just by holding or looking at it. My Favorite Things invites Northwest Arkansas to share something or a special place that brings them joy, and in the case of Brenda Mashburn Nemec, much of that joy centers around Christmas.
Audiences at the Arkansas Public Theater know Nemec from her recent role as Mayor Eulali Makechny Shane's wife in The Musician. But he's mostly been behind the scenes, directing shows like "Almost Maine," which premiered in February, and the upcoming APT musical, "Little Shop of Horrors." Offstage, she has worked as a nurse for more than 30 years, now works at Hedberg Allergy and has been married to her husband Jason, the new "Music Man" mayor, for nearly 15 years. They have four children and eight grandchildren.
"My dad and stepmom started cooking my Christmas meal years ago," says Nemec. “Jason picked up bits here and there for me. Tearing it, tearing it, I changed the napkins and coasters from time to time, and new tablecloths this year. I hope that one day I will have a matching gold cutlery set. With this table, friends and family contribute to the Christmas tree!

You collect food, pigs, cardinals, snowmen, Christmas trees.
What do you like about this theme? I am very sensitive to things and I love everything that has to do with friends and family. Snowmen and pigs make me laugh! Jason is a huge fan of St. Louis. Louis Cardinals, so we have Cardinals. The dishes remind me of family dinners and relatives who are no longer with us. Food makes me happy!
Which item in the group is the most expensive? I don't even know the value of most of our stuff.
Where do you find most of the items in your collection? Beautiful? thrift store? sell real estate? All of the above and from friends and family.
Are there "runaway" products, that is, that you missed and do not regret buying? not really. I have a small block in Silver Dollar City in 2021 when Silver Dollar City has no glass snowmen!
Is your collection finished or in progress? If it continues, will it end? it will never end!!
Are you looking for a white whale? not really. Things were a little slow with our group. Most of the time, it has to be something special or different for me to buy it. I still want a set of blue and white plates!
What are people saying about your band? Some love them. Some people think I'm crazy. Most people really like nightstands.
Is your group running out of space, and if so, do you have an event planned? I have left the room. I wish I had a plan!
