Steven Spielberg , 76-year-old director, producer and philanthropist, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Berlin Film Festival. His latest project, The Fabelmans, is currently up for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture (produced by himself and longtime partners Tony Kushner and Christy Makosko-Krieger), Best Director, Best Actress ( Michelle Williams ) and Best Supporting Actor . ( Judd Hirsch ), "Best Original Screenplay" (Kushner and, on rare occasions, Spielberg himself), "Best Original Score" ( John Williams ), and "Best Production Design" ( Rick Carter and Karen O'Hara ).
The theme of anti-Semitism, which runs through many Fabelmans, was clear in Spielberg's mind when he took the stage. The director of Schindler and Munich's List said : " This honor is especially close to my heart because I am a Jewish director." history to fix what the Jews call Tikkun Olam, to fix and restore the world."

He went on to talk about what is now known as the USC Shoah Foundation , a unique archive of Holocaust survivor testimonies that grew out of his work on Schindler's List. The organization has radically changed the way history is taught, releasing several award-winning films and expanding to witness genocide and other atrocities.
“I founded the Holocaust Foundation because I am convinced that what historian Yosef Chaim Yerushalmi wrote is true: “The opposite of justice is not injustice. Forgetfulness is the opposite of justice. Reconciliation is only possible if we remind ourselves of what happened.” has always been “an important partner in the work of the Shoah Foundation. Individuals and the German government have joined us and the Berlin Film Festival to gather and interview witnesses, present documentaries, distribute educational materials and help us make our archives widely available in Germany.”
And he continued: “The German people were ready to read the history of their country and confront its teachings about anti-Semitism, intolerance and xenophobia, which portend the Holocaust. Other countries, including mine, have much to learn from the courageous determination of the German people to resist the Nazi rise to power. A nation can only be named when it rejects the comforting amnesia that seduces us all. After the twentieth century, perhaps no nation should boast or be deceived by what deserves to be called justice. But we must not deny the possibility of justice. We can't stop chasing him. This search is our best hope to find the meaning of life. And it all starts with memories.
At the festival, he also dismissed any suggestion that the Fabelman biopic was the final film. But he said , “I don't know what I'm going to do next. I have no idea,” although it’s not entirely strange to him. Like Martin Scorsese , Spielberg usually has several potential upcoming projects to wrestle with before completing one. (He once abandoned the post-production of Ready Player One in order to quickly film The Post, which has fewer effects.)
However, Spielberg made headlines by confirming that he was still developing Stanley Kubrick's script for Napoleon as a seven-episode miniseries for HBO . Kubrick dabbled in the subject for years after filming 2001: A Space Odyssey, but the project was ultimately shelved when producers became concerned about its finances. Some of the research is included in his latest film, Barry Lyndon. Spielberg first announced a deal with the Kubrick estate in 2013, and in 2016 Cary Joji Fukunaga was hired to direct. Of course, in 2001, Spielberg adapted Kubrick's previously unrealized AI project: Artificial Intelligence.
