‘Make Weeding As Painless As Possible Expert Offers Gardening Tips For People With Serious Lung Conditions

Award-winning landscape architect David Shortall has some advice for those whose health is compromised by serious lung disease, as well as others who may be affected by the disease.

When the weed comes, make it as painless as possible, will describe a free webinar hosted by people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) starting next month.

He suggested covering the ground with a humpback.

"Put some cardboard and then spread the bark over it, and that significantly reduces the number of weeds."

It is also a good alternative to herbicides.

"If you use household vinegar, your potatoes, driveways or sidewalks will burn weeds. Mist or spray it on your lawn and watch them disappear," she said.

“If hand mulch or vinegar doesn't work, rake it with a hand trowel and remove any remaining weeds.

"It's good exercise and you get lots of fresh air. Finally, if the above is too difficult, ask yourself: Is this a weed or a wildflower? Maybe I'll leave just one spot and watch the flowers grow!"

Mr Shortall will be a guest speaker at the Living Your Best Life with COPD webinar on Friday 7 April.

Epsom salts, commonly used in baths and available at any drugstore, contain magnesium, which is essential for plant growth, she says. Potted and container plants give the most.

Dilute some salt in warm water in a watering can and exercise as the health of your plant improves.

She recommends making the garden look more natural, including wildflowers, and not cutting all the grass.

Other speakers at the event were transformational operations psychologist Dr. Eddie Murphy and chef Adrian Martin in the Miss Ireland webinar, Dr. Ivana McMahon will moderate.

Hosted by COPD Support Ireland, the website aims to provide many practical tips that can change the lives of people with COPD.

There are approximately 380,000 people with COPD in Ireland.

The main symptoms are persistent shortness of breath and persistent cough with or without phlegm.

Although smoking is a common cause, other risk factors include exposure to secondhand smoke, dust, chemicals and fumes, living with an existing condition such as chronic asthma, and

Family history of some lung diseases.

"My hope is that people can enter life with new meaning and purpose and through real action make a real difference in living the best life with COPD."
