The Home Improvement Event Of The Year: HBA Home & Garden Show Returns To Expo Square

The home improvement event of the year returns to Expo Square this coming weekend.

The annual Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa's Home and Garden Show will take place March 9-12 and introduce attendees to home improvement, outdoor activities, gardening and more. The event is sponsored by Burnett Home Improvement and the DR Horton Home Construction Company.

The theme of the Home and Garden Show is "Make Your Home a Paradise" and it aims to help customers find everything they need to create their ideal home, said HBA CEO Jeffrey Smith. .

“We have renovators at the show who can answer your questions and be an asset to you when it comes to remodeling, or if you want to replace windows, siding or doors, we have many vendors who can help you spruce up your home. Smith said... "There are also many providers that can help make your life better. There are beauty services, wellness services, chiropractic services and more so you can go out and check it out."

Dr Horton

Although DR Horton is an established national presence -- the company has been around since 1978 and is the largest homebuilder in the United States -- it's new to the Tulsa market, sales manager Christy Gillentine said.

"We've been in Tulsa for about three years," Gilentine said. “There are a lot of people moving to Tulsa, but there is a housing shortage. We are trying to solve the problems that a lot of homebuyers have had here, whether they are able to afford a house or have had a hard time buying a house in the past few years.

This year, the Home and Garden Show will be the first DR Horton show in Tulsa. The company hopes to provide insight and entertainment to guests at its booth, Gelentine said.

“We do a lot of giveaways and have virtual reality experiences for guests,” Gillentine said. "They can wear a virtual reality headset and walk through all the floor plans of the houses we build in the Tulsa area."

While there are many homebuilders in the Tulsa metropolitan area, Gelentine says the main factors that set DR Horton apart are the affordable nature of their homes and the fact that they always have homes available for interested buyers.

"The biggest difference with us is that we always have completely move-in ready homes available for current buyers," Gillentine said.

Tulsa Master Gardener

For all things plant and gardening, look no further than the Tulsa Master Gardeners booth at the Home and Garden Show. These garden experts definitely have a green thumb and are eager to share their knowledge with guests at homes and at garden shows, says master gardener Terry Cain.

“Our main goal is to share research-based horticultural education,” Kane said. "This is our first home and garden show since 2020, so we can't wait."

The Tulsa Master Gardeners booth is all about gardening with a purpose, focusing on helping others grow pollinator- and insect-friendly gardens, Kane said.

"Because native plants and pollinators have been such a big problem in recent years, we set out to show people that everything has a purpose, whether it's a plant or an insect, in our ecosystem," Kane said. "It's more than just growing out of the ground: it has a purpose."

In addition to a pollinator garden and a native habitat garden, there will be a tree planting demonstration by Tulsa master gardeners and a giveaway of Rafflef dogwood seedlings, Kane said. The company is also partnering with the Euchee Butterfly Farm, which will lend its giant caterpillar statue to the photo booth.

Oklahoma Natural Gas

Oklahoma Natural Gas has been a part of the annual Home and Garden Show for more than 50 years. The company, which supplies natural gas to more than 900,000 Oklahomans, is always happy to connect with customers who use its products every day, said Brandon Reinbolt, senior market development representative.

"It's always an exciting time to come back each year, support the community and see our customers face to face," Reinbolt said.

"People use our products every day to cook, heat and dry clothes," says public relations manager Chad Privitch. "It's fun to see them come up to us and interact with the people at our booth."

At the Home and Garden Show, Oklahoma Natural Gas will have live demonstrations demonstrating the ease of cooking with natural gas, Reinbolt said.

“A few years ago, we brought back our gas cooking scene,” Reinbolt said. “It will feature local chefs showcasing delicious natural gas recipes. Natural gas is one of chefs' favorite power sources, so seeing how they use it on the show is exciting.

Reinbolt said NGO staff will be on hand to provide customers with information on available discounts.

"We want to make sure everyone is aware of our energy efficiency rebates on our natural gas dryers, hot water tanks, ovens, ranges and the like," Reinbolt said.

Tulsa New Netherland

Tulsa New Holland Farm Equipment Dealership is a family business through and through.

The current president, Travis McCrate, succeeds his father, who founded the company six years ago. Long before climbing the corporate ladder, McCrate helped companies put on home and garden shows. He estimates that their first date was in the third grade.

What sets Tulsa New Holland apart, McCrate said, is that the company treats its customers like family.

"Our tagline in our stores has always been 'Your Partner'; we want it to be a partnership where we care about our customers," says McCrate. "Many of our clients are more than just clients. They are like friends and family to us, having worked with many of them for over 40 years.

At this year's Home and Garden Show, Tulsa New Holland will be displaying many products from Stanley Black & Decker and DeWalt. For an exciting twist, DeWalt will bring its NASCAR racing cars and racing team to the show.

“We're going to have a lot of special things for people this year,” McCrate said.

As northeast Oklahoma begins to get warmer weather, McCrate said he's eager to help people find the right gear for their spring projects.

"People are ready to go into their backyard and start planning, whether it's gardening, pruning or whatever," McCrate said. "We want to offer you the best products at the best prices because our show will feature some of the best deals of the season."
