Easy DIY Bead And Ribbon Bookmarks

Looking for easy crafts or Christmas gifts? I have the answer: beads and strips of ribbon. This would make a great gift of the year for a teacher, perhaps with a book.

What I love about these is that you can make them work in any color for any occasion, even for a specific purpose. For example, making roses with pink beads for breast cancer awareness, using colors for autism awareness (I often see blue, red, yellow and turquoise), or making pink, white and red for Valentine's Day, or green and white. . You can find pink ribbons, Christmas trees , or other items that match your St. Patrick's Day theme.

It is very easy and cheap to make. Simply choose your beads and purchase organza ribbon at any craft store. Mine are 3/8 inch wide and only $1.99 per pack.

Of course, part of the fun is choosing the beads. It's hard not to buy! The important thing to remember is that your tape must go through the hole in the center of the bead , so check before you buy.

Bead and Ribbon Marker Instructions:

Cut the tape to size. (I determined the "tall" length by taking the book off the shelf and using a tape measure as a guide. I then cut the tape about 1 1/2 the height of the book).

Then tie the ribbon at the end, tie the bead and tie another knot, making sure the bead stays at the end of the ribbon.

Then add some beads to the other end. I called one end of the bookmark "top" with the larger bead.

Tips to make this project easy:

If you burn the ends of the tape with a match or lighter, they will not tear.
Be sure to tie a knot at the end of the ribbon marker where you want to store the beads. If you don't have any, you can put beads in the middle of the ribbon.
Be sure to leave enough tape to secure each end of the bead group. Measure using the math book as a guide and add at least half the length.
If you have trouble, use a large needle to thread the tape through the beads. Again, your beads should have large holes for the ribbon to pass through.
