Like many gardeners, I learned how to plant flowers at a young age. My dad lets us pick a few yearlings each year. Then a place was lit, give us a shovel and we dig and plant.

Maybe come back later when we're not playing and plant some of those flowers. All we know is that they are grown. And it was always a beautiful place in the garden.

If you haven't planted flowers before, don't worry. Most plants are quite tolerant. As long as the roots go deep into the soil and you give them enough water, these flowers will bloom whether planted by a child, a novice gardener or a professional.

Here's how to plant flowers in the garden.

Gather your garden tools

You will need some basic tools. They include:

Prepare the soil

Make sure the soil is ready for planting.

  • Remove weeds or grasses that may compete with the flowers.
  • Remove stones or rocks.
  • Work the soil six inches deep so that it is loose and easy to dig.
  • If the soil feels dry and sandy, you may need to amend the soil by adding organic matter such as mulch. Insert it well into the ground.

If it hasn't rained recently, water the soil lightly. You want it to be moist, but not soggy. Pick up a block of land and touch it. If water comes out, it's too much.

Place the plants where you will plant them

Before planting the flowers, water them in the pot and then arrange them to see how they are doing. Moving pots is easier than digging and transplanting.

Some other tips include:

  • Double check the label for height and clearance requirements. If this information is missing, it can be found online. Also, make sure that the best growing conditions for the plant are suitable for the place where you plan to plant it.
  • If the planting area can only be seen from one side, place tall flowers in the back and short flowers in front.
  • If the planting area is visible from all sides, plant taller flowers in the center and surround them with lower ones.
  • Once you've arranged the flowers where you want them, leave them where they are.

Excavation and plant

You are finally ready to plant your flowers.

  • Dig a hole the same depth and slightly wider than the container in which the flower fell. Place the container in the hole to determine if it is deep enough.
  • Carefully remove the plant from its pot. For small containers, you can usually grab the bottom to loosen the plant and pull it out. For larger ones, press on all sides, roll and tap down gently. Note: Never pull the plant by the stem.
  • Treat seedlings with care. If planting indoors, be sure to harden them off by placing them outside in a sheltered spot for a few hours over a few days. can be bigger
  • Place the plant in the hole, cover it with excavated soil and lightly compact the soil.

Water and prune as needed

Once you have planted all the flowers, get a watering can or sock with a spout. If the latter, choose a soft shower or rainfall environment. Water the base of the plants so they don't flatten.

You have severed every stem and dried every flower. Then pinch off the newly formed flower buds. This will encourage the plant to grow more stems and eventually grow bigger and stronger with more flowers.

Cover the bare soil with mulch. It conserves moisture in the soil and slows down the growth of weeds. Water should be given as needed throughout the season.

And now for the best part: watching your plants grow and bloom. Depending on what you plant, you could soon have a bunch of cut flowers to enjoy indoors or a stunning display to impress all who pass by your garden.
