Bulbs: If you've overwintered dahlia tubers, canna rhizomes, or gladiolus worms in damp (but not wet) peat or sphagnum moss, check every three to four weeks to make sure they're not wet and haven't started growing. , develop. moldy or rotten, or on the contrary too dry and withered. If it dries out too much, the peat must be re-moistened.

Green Thumb Online Gardening Course: Visit the Dane County Extension website, https://dane.extension.wisc.edu/, to enroll in our spring course series. You can find information about green thumb activities in the Gardening tab. You can purchase the entire series package or individual courses. Most, but not all, lessons are recorded. The series of seven classes begins on March 6 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday through April 17. Themes include Wisconsin spring wildflowers; plant and prune shade trees; prune deciduous shrubs; Wisconsin Butterfly Planning and Butterfly Parks; rain gardens for pollinators; grow berries; and permanent for sun and shade. The entire series is $70; some classes are $12 each. Classes are recorded if you are unable to attend the night of the event.

Annual Tree and Shrub Trimming Workshop: I will be hosting the Annual Tree and Shrub Trimming Workshop at the Dane County Extension Unit east of Madison on Saturday, March 11 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm with a second small group session . March 25, Saturday, at the same time. There is a limit of 20 participants. We'll start indoors with a lecture on tree and shrub trimming, followed by a hands-on session outdoors at the Dane County Training Garden, where you can practice trimming with an expert. If possible, please bring scissors or pruning shears (we will have a limited number of tools there) and wear appropriate outdoor clothing. The cost of the session is $12.
