Animals Skin Made Products Face Market Stagnation

KABUL (Pajwok): Several persons associated with the animal skin jackets industry said their businesses are facing stagnation in the market and urged the government to explore new markets for their products.

Animal skin clothing has a long history in Afghanistan, people used to make different types of coats and other animal skin products, there were both local and foreign buyers, but today the market has declined.

Those associated with these businesses report a decrease in their business and say that their business is suffering and their customers are decreasing due to the decrease in the number of tourists.

Sania Mohammadi, owner of Sania Mohammadi Animal Leather Industry, said in an exclusive interview with Pajhwo Afghan News that she spent twenty years of her life producing products from animal skins.

Mohammadi, who hails from the Taimani region, sells jackets, vests, gloves, coats and scarves from his shop in Shah-i-Nau.

He complained about the decrease in sales: "Before, there was a lot of demand for animal skin products at home, and local and foreign tourists wanted to buy these products, but now their business is decreasing."

Touching on the decrease in sales of his products compared to the past, he said that they are currently sold only at the fair, which is very limited, adding: "The fair opened a few days ago, and I sold only 6 products there. . hats and some men's jackets.

According to the source, their production has also decreased due to reduced sales and shortage of raw materials (animal skins).

In the past, the raw materials were sufficient as foxes, deer and other animals were hunted, but hunting of animals was prohibited for several years, and as a result, they experienced a shortage of raw materials.

He wants the government to control the marketing of his products so that the pet fur business does not stagnate.

Haji Vahid, the owner of Abdul Basit handicraft store in Shahr-i-Naud, also complained about the decrease in sales.

He has been in business for the past few years and says that in the past it employed more than 50 people, but now employs 15 people, including dozens of men and women.

"Our sales are down 90 percent and not every business owner like me has sales.

He added that we used to make and sell 100 coats a month, but today there is no sale, and there has been no sale in the last few months.

He also asked the government to study the market for his products.

Muhammad Asif, the owner of another shop near Taimani, says that earlier they only sold jackets made of some animal skins, but now their products can only be sold at fairs.

He urged the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to ensure that its industry does not collapse and demanded that the government organize more exhibitions to stimulate the sale of products.

Akhunzadeh Abdul Salam Javad, head of the press service of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said that several exhibitions were held in the country and abroad in order to promote the business of animal skin products.

He said BEA fully supports them and is making efforts to expand marketing to sell their products.

"We can make it easier for them to participate in the exhibition, and if the exhibition is held abroad, we will make it easier for them to participate and get visas and transport goods."
